Cosmetic Dentistry - It's all about your smile!

Lets face it, your smile says so much about who you are. Smiles are a universal form of communication regardless of what language you speak or country you come from. Your smile instantly communicates so much about how you feel about yourself, what kind of personality you have and how you feel about the company you are with.

Many people have low self esteem due to dissatisfaction with their smiles. So much that a smile can impact both personal and professional relationships. So know that we know all this, how can cosmetic dentistry help you? The art and science of cosmetic dentistry is constantly evolving. There are many different techniques and procedures to improve your smile. The first step towards an enhanced smile is identifying the problem that is bothering you. This could be an insecurity you've had in the past or something more recent. Identify the problem first. Below are just a few common issues that we can help correct.

Straightening Crooked or Crowded Teeth with Invisalign®

There are, in most cases, a couple of options to straighten teeth.  One option is Invisalign and Chelsea Family Dentistry is a Certified Invisalign® Provider.

What is it?

Invisalign
Invisalign®

Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you're wearing. So, you can smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign is made with 3-D computer imaging technology and has been proven effective. More than 70% of orthodontists in the US and Canada are certified to treat with Invisalign.

Why would I want it?

Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. And no metal and wires usually means you spend less time in your doctor's office getting adjustments. Invisalign also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.

How does it work?

You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to the final position. You'll visit about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages 9-15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.

There are other options that involves cosmetic dental restorations such as porcelain veneers, crowns, dental bridges or a combination. Porcelain veneers have become a very popular procedure in the field of cosmetic dentistry. They have been a popular cosmetic option for many years but recently have become more popular due to increased exposure in traditional media.

Correct Missing Teeth with Dental Implants

Teeth WhiteningDental implants are artificial tooth replacements used to replace a missing tooth or teeth, helping to stop or prevent jaw bone loss.

By replacing missing tooth roots, implants offer more than an esthetic enhancement, providing people with the strength and durability required to eat all the foods they love, without struggling to chew. Although you have a number of restorative options for the treatment of missing teeth, none have proven to be as functionally effective and durable as implants.

In many cases, dental implants may be the only logical choice for the restoration of all necessary functionality of the teeth and supporting structures.

Chelsea Family Dentistry utilizes the state -of-the-art tools of Nobel Biocare for Dental implants.

Dentures

Complete dentures are used to replace missing Gum Liftteeth for people with no remaining teeth. Dentures may also be used for people who have lost several teeth. In this case, the appliance is called a partial denture or an overdenture. Chelsea Family Dentistry now offers same day dentures.

Tooth loss may result from periodontal disease (gum disease), tooth decay, or traumatic injury. It is very important to replace missing teeth. The ill effects of not doing so can be a shift in remaining teeth, an inability to bite and chew properly, as well as a sagging facial appearance, which makes one appear older than they are.

The beauty of dentures today is that they are designed to be comfortable and functional. They are very similar in appearance to natural teeth, and can improve a smile or facial appearance.

Bonding

It's not unusual to feel shy about smiling if you have imperfections in your teeth. Stained teeth may inhibit you from smiling as often or as big as you would like. Having a chipped tooth or gaps in your teeth can have a similar effect. Bonding can help you smile with confidence.

Gum LiftDuring a bonding procedure, a dentist bonds a tooth-colored resin, or plastic, to your tooth with an ultraviolet "curing" light. It's one of the easiest and most cost-effective dental treatments used to make small cosmetic improvements to your teeth.

Unlike veneers and tooth crowns, which are commonly used to make similar improvements, a bonding procedure usually takes just 30-60 minutes per tooth and is often complete in just one dental visit. Another advantage of dental bonding is that it requires less prep work than veneers or crowns, so more of your tooth enamel remains intact.

Dentists can even use bonding techniques to replace existing amalgam, or silver, fillings with more natural-looking composites. Although bonding a composite filling is basically the same procedure, anesthesia is usually required and it generally takes more than one visit to complete. Bonding can also be used to fill recent cavities that appear in your front teeth where aesthetics are especially important.

Veeneers

Veneers

Dental veneers are custom-designed shells of tooth-like ceramic material that, when applied over the surface of a tooth, can cover worn tooth enamel, uneven tooth alignment or spacing, and chips or cracks.

Dental veneers fall into the category of cosmetic dentistry because they create a bright, white smile with beautifully aligned, shapely teeth. Even better, the translucent ceramic quality of today's veneers provides a more natural look than what's been available in the past.

Gum Lift

Uneven Gums/Gummy Smile

A gum lift can corect a gummy smile. Gingival contouring using soft tissue laser can result in a better smile.

Silver Filling Replacement

The Many Uses of Crowns

A crown can make your tooth stronger and improve its appearance. It can cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn't enough tooth left. It can be used to attach a bridge, protect a weak tooth from breaking or restore one that's already broken. A crown is a good way to cover teeth that are discolored or badly shaped. It's also used to cover a dental implant.

Cosmetic dentistry has evolved and there are so many more materials that have a better cosmetic look. We can replace your old silver amalgam fillings with new up to date materials such as composite resins and all porcelain crowns.

There are many different cosmetic problems that cosmetic dentistry procedures can fix. The best way to move forward is to set up a consultation with Dr. Napieralski or Dr. Wisniewski.  During your initial smile consultation you will be able to discuss smile goals, concerns and really get to know your new dentist.
